Whether you’re new to the cannabis game or you’ve been friends with the ganja for ages, it can be hard to decipher how much CBD is actually beneficial to achieving the touted health benefits.
Because CBD is not yet regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there are no official recommended dosages. This means you are on your own to figure out dosages.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 60+ active compounds derived from the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not psychoactive. But these active compounds, known as cannabinoids, do have the ability to affect your body in many different ways. Some of these include: reduces anxiety, easing of pain and inflammation, improved depression symptoms, better sleep quality, etc.
But regardless of what you’re hoping to treat with CBD, how much you take does matter. If the dosage is incorrect, the results may not be optimal. There are factors to consider (beyond your symptoms) that will inform you how much you need to take. These include body weight, body chemistry, and CBD concentration. The best thing you can do is start off with a small dosage of CBD and increase slowly until you’ve achieved your desired outcome. This could mean starting with 20 to 40mg a day.
It can be tricky to know exactly how much your consuming depending on the form. Capsules, pills, and edibles often specify how much is in each serving which is helpful. CBD oil usually comes in a dropper bottle which will outline how many mgs are in a single drop. If the only specifications are the entire bottle milligrams, individual dose awareness is more difficult.
CBD research is making progress but there is still a lot we don’t know. Most human studies involve dosages between 20 and 1,500 milligrams (mg) per day. As the cannabis industry grows, researchers will likely conduct more studies on cannabis in more specific, symptom-related studies.
